The start
of February is often the time when the first, tentative signs of spring start
to emerge. Daffodils are starting to
come up, the snowdrops are in flower and the evenings are getting noticeably
longer – it may even be light when you are leaving work!
Here in
Somerset, we usually benefit from mild winters so things are starting to wake
up in the flower beds around the park and we’re all looking forward to the
start of the new season with the first pitch and static home bookings coming in
for Easter already.
Now is the
best time to start getting your caravan or motorhome ready for the new season
to make sure you are ready to hit the road when the opportunity arises. There are a number of routine checks you can
undertake yourself, checking over the interior and giving it good clean is a good start, making sure there
is no sign of damp ingress over the winter and checking for mould growth on any
internal surfaces or soft furnishings. Ensuring
that your water system has been flushed through with an appropriate steriliser
to get rid of any bacteria which may have taken hold over the winter is very
important and should be done before refilling.
It is
likely that your leisure battery will need a charge if your vehicle has been
sat unused all winter. You should also
check all the lights and lightbulbs are working, both inside and outside and
replace those which aren’t. A thorough
wash and wax of the exterior to get rid of any green from the damp winter
months will not only make your vehicle look better, you will be protecting the
paintwork too.
If all that
seems like very hard work, this is the
perfect time to consider booking your caravan or motorhome in for a clean and service
before things get too busy. Mick, our resident expert in our on-site workshop, will
undertake a thorough service of your vehicle in accordance with the rigorous
standards applied by the ApprovedWorkshop Scheme (of which we are a member) and give it a good clean and wax as
well. We can undertake a motorhome habitation check
and also offer a damp check and repair service.
Replacement parts and a wide range of consumables and accessories for all your touring needs are
available from our onsite shop.
